Black Forest cake, also known as Schwarz alder Kirsch torte, is a classic German dessert that is made up of layers of chocolate sponge cake, whipped cream, and cherries.

Ingredients 

For the Cake: 6 eggs, 3/4 cup granulated sugar, 1/2 cup all-purpose flour, 1/2 cup cocoa powder, 1/4 teaspoon salt

For the Filling: 2 cups heavy cream, 1 cup powdered sugar, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, 1 can (15 oz) of black cherries in syrup or 2 cups fresh cherries, 1/4 cup cherry brandy

For the Frosting: 1 cup heavy cream, 1/4 cup powdered sugar, 1 tablespoon cocoa powder, Chocolate shavings for decoration

Instructions 

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line three 8-inch round cake pans with parchment paper.In a large mixing bowl, beat the eggs and sugar together until light and fluffy.

In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Slowly fold the dry ingredients into the egg mixture, mixing until well combined.

Divide the batter evenly among the prepared cake pans and smooth the tops with a spatula.Bake the cakes for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

To make the filling, beat the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract together in a large mixing bowl until stiff peaks form.

Drain the cherries and reserve the syrup. Mix the cherries with the cherry brandy. Once the cakes are cool, place one cake layer on a cake plate or serving platter.

Spread a thick layer of whipped cream on top of the first cake layer, then top it with a layer of cherries. Repeat the process with the remaining cake layers.

To make the frosting, beat the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and cocoa powder together in a large mixing bowl until stiff peaks form.

Frost the top and sides of the cake with the whipped cream.Decorate the cake with chocolate shavings and cherries. Keep the cake in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
